Disc spring stacks are under hydraulic preload in the open
position in quick-action valves. After a
failure, the hydraulic pressure drops and releases the spring stack, hence
closing the valve. This application
mainly uses ball bearing centered stacks. In addition, the spring stack has a self-adjusting function by countering
the set-loss of gaskets. This conserves overhead costs as it minimizes required
maintenance.
